Workshop Description:
This indoor workshop is designed around using your travel photos to create memorable sketches and paintings in YOUR own voice. I will demonstrate and speak on the first day as to how I chooses from her travel photos and creates sharpie sketches and oil and acrylic paintings.
You will be invited to work in any medium you wish on two small paintings per day. This class is about learning how to start a successful small painting. You will improve your compositional skills, experiment with different paint handling techniques, and discuss and apply color theory.
Supplies:
4 small (under 8 x 10 inch) canvases or canvas panels
Your own painting supplies (any medium)
6 travel photos printed or on an iPad that have a strong light & shadow pattern.
Sketchbook + Ultra Fine Tip Sharpie
Any kind of sketchbook that you like. I like the Handbook Journal by Speedball 95 lb Cold Pressed 3.5 x 8.25 inches (Amazon)
Small watercolor set and one brush (optional)
I will bring my past sketch books, travel paintings, and some larger works for display and discussion and I will paint along with you in my method of making big memories from my small travel photos.

What is the difference between a WORKSHOP and a RETREAT?
This RETREAT is designed to accommodate creative travel for both the beginner or the pro allowing for the flexibility you desire. Most workshops are scheduled as 9-5 paint all day sessions. This is different.
If you’re an experienced painter and want to venture out on your own and ask for feedback or receive a private critique later, this retreat allows you to follow your inspiration in free form. If you’re a newer painter, I will be sketching or painting every morning (except when we’re touring or shopping in hillside towns) and will be there to guide you step by step on your individual painting journey.
Each afternoon will be “free paint” or “free sketch” time. I will be doing the same, and if you want instruction in the afternoon, you can paint along with me, or you can be “free”. Get as much or as little instruction as you choose and rewrite your art story here in beautiful Tuscany.
